Setting Up DMARC, SPF, And DKIM – Namecheap

DMARC is a DNS txt record that the domain owner publishes to prevent email scams and other cyber threats. It uses both DKIM and SPF authentication to verify whether the message is from a genuine sender or not. One can set up DMARC to verify and authenticate incoming emails along with DKIM and SPF to ensure complete security from email spoofing, phishing, and other threats.

Steps To Setup Namecheap DKIM Records
Follow the below steps to set up the DKIM in Namecheap.
- Log in to namecheap.com and click on ‘Domain List’ from the menu. Then click on the ‘Manage’ button located beside the domain to which the DKIM record needs to be added.
- Click on the ‘Advanced DNS’ tab to create the DKIM record for the domain.
- Click on the ‘Add New Record’ button and enter the DKIM record settings. Select the record type as CNAME and set ‘Host’ as s1._domainkey. Now save all changes.
- Before publishing the record, don’t forget to use a DKIM record checker to confirm whether the values entered are correct or not.
Steps To Setup Namecheap SPF Records
Create a record using the SPF record generator and then follow the below steps.
- Log in to your namecheap.com account.
- On the dashboard, click on the ‘Domain List.’ Select the domain to which the SPF record needs to be added and click on the ‘Manage’ button.
- Go to the ‘Advanced DNS’ tab and click on the ‘Add New Record’ button. Now a table appears where the data needs to be filled in. Ensure that the ‘Record Type’ is ‘TXT,’ the ‘Hostname’ is set to ‘@,’ and the value is set to the TXT record generated.
- Click on the ‘Save All Changes’ button.
- To check if the SPF record is published correctly, make use of the SPF record checker.
Note that the changes done when setting the TXT values need some time to propagate in the DNS.
Steps To Set Up Namecheap DMARC Records
After you’re done with the above two steps, you can go ahead and set up DMARC for your domain on Namecheap.
- Log in to the Namecheap account (namecheap.com) and click on the ‘Domain List’ option on the dashboard. Then click on the ‘Manage’ button on the right side of the domain for which the DMARC record needs to be set.
- Click on the ‘Advanced DNS’ tab. If the record is already present with _dmarc name, edit the record. Otherwise, create a new one by clicking on the ‘Add New Record’ Button.
- Select the TXT Record as the type and enter _dmarc as the ‘Host’ for the record. For the value field, add v=DMARC1 or the record created using DMARC record creator and save all the changes to update DNS records.
- Run a DMARC record check to verify if the record created has the correct syntax and value.
DMARC records protect a domain from receiving spoofed emails. It uses DKIM and SPF authentication methods to check incoming emails. The steps mentioned above are easy to follow and will help you set up Namecheap DKIM, DMARC, and SPF records quickly and ensure email security for your domain!
