Quick Answer

After a July 1 DNS failure of the mailhop.org TLD that ICANN eventually resolved, DuoCircle added redundant DNS to remove single points of failure. The mailhop.org zone is hosted by DYN, with Amazon Route 53 and Cloudflare added as additional providers across separate registrars and TLDs. Customers should configure backup MX records as follows. Email Gateway / Email Forwarding: MX 10 your custom record or mx1.mailhop.org, MX 20 mx1.mailhop.us, MX 30 mx1.mailhop.co, MX 40 mx1.mailhop.co.uk. Backup MX: MX 5 your existing mail server, MX 10 mx2.mailhop.org or your custom record, MX 20 mx2.mailhop.us, MX 30 mx2.mailhop.co, MX 40 mx2.mailhop.co.uk.

DNS Redundancy

On July 1 we experienced DNS failure of our top level mailhop.org domain which impacted customers to a varying degree before ICANN resolved the problem. Part of our mission statement is to minimize all single points of failure for your email service. As a response to this problem we have created three new DNS zones that you should immediately add to your DNS record.

Cloudflare

The mailhop.org DNS is handled by DYN, we have now added Amazon’s Route 53 and Cloudflare as redundant DNS providers and have created multiple zones for redundancy. Not only are these domains registered with difference registrars, they are also utilizing independent TLD’s (Top Level Domains) and different DNS providers.

To you should configure your DNS so that your custom MX record or mx1.mailhop.org is set to priority 10 and the additional records should be configured like this:

Email Gateway / Email Forwarding

MX 10 Your custom MX Record (from customer portal) or mx1.mailhop.org
MX 20 mx1.mailhop.us
MX 30 mx1.mailhop.co
MX 40 mx1.mailhop.co.uk

Backup MX

customer portal

MX 5 Your current mx record – this is your server directly or your own filtering destination
MX 10 Your custom MX Record (from customer portal) or mx2.mailhop.org
MX 20 mx2.mailhop.us
MX 30 mx2.mailhop.co
MX 40 mx2.mailhop.co.uk

We are urging customers to make this change as soon as possible to minimize any future DNS related issue.
